UPDATED: 12:54 p.m.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — This is a daily briefing of the Indians’ second spring training in Goodyear, Ariz. We’re at 20 days and counting until the regular season opens April 5 in Chicago. Follow me on twitter.com/hoynsie and cleveland.com for daily updates and observations.

Day 24: The Indians (5-3-2) play San Francisco today at 1:05 p.m. MT (4:05 p.m. EDT) at Goodyear Ballpark. Practice begins at 9:30 a.m. MT (12:30 a.m. EDT) at the player development complex. The Indians start making their way to Goodyear Ballpark around noon (3 p.m. EDT).

Call to arms: Jake Westbrook will make his third start of the spring for the Indians. He’ll face two-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum of the Giants.

Westbrook has made 30 big-league starts in the last three years, 25 in 2007 and five in 2008. He missed all of last season with Tommy John surgery, but has been pain free this spring.

Lincecum, who won the NL Cy Young last year with 15 wins, has made 65 starts in the last two years. Last season he led the NL in strikeouts with 261, while walking 68 and allowing 168 hits in 225 1/3 innings. He had an ERA of 2.48 and a WHIP of 1.05.

Today’s lineups: Indians: LF Trevor Crowe, CF Grady Sizemore, RF Shin-Soo Choo, DH Travis Hafner, 3B Jhonny Peralta, 2B Mark Grudzielanek, 1B Andy Marte, C Lou Marson, SS Jason Donald and RHP Westbrook.

Giants: CF Andres Torres, RF Eugenio Velez, SS Edgar Renteria, C Bengie Molina, DH John Bowker, 2B Juan Uribe, 1B Buster Posey, LF Thomas Neal, 3B Ryan Rohlinger and LHP
Lincecum.

Doesn’t it seem as if Edgar Renteria has played forever?  More importantly, doesn’t it seem as if he’ll live in the nightmares of Indians’ fans for twice that long?

Also pitching: Jamey Wright, Chris Perez, Jess Todd and Frank Herrmann are scheduled to follow Westbrook today against the Giants.

Follow the Tribe: SportsTime Ohio will televise today’s game at 1:05 p.m. MT (4:05 p.m. EDT). The game can also be heard on indians.com via MLB audio subscription. The games are free during spring training. Jim Rosenhaus does the play-by-play. Cleveland.com will carry in-game updates.

Roster construction: Here’s an early look at the Class AAA Columbus roster. It will change as players are cut from big-league camp.

Pitchers: Scott Barnes, Eric Berger, Garrison Camfield, Dallas Cawiezell, Ryan Edell, Connor Graham, Scott Lewis, Tom Mastny, Adam Miller (yes, that Adam Miller), Vincent Pestano, Carlton Smith, Erik Stiller, Josh Tomlin, Neil Wagner and Steve Wright.

Catchers: Alexander Castillo, Miguel Perez and Douglas Pickens.

Infielders: Stephen Head, Matt McBride, Cristo Arnal, Jared Goedert, Jerad Head, Josh Rodriguez and Mark Thompson.

Outfielders: Matt Brown, Jose Constanza, John Drennan, Tim Fedroff, Brian Horwitz and Lucas Montero.

Talking baseball: The Plain Dealer will host a “Talking Tribe Breakfast’ April 12 for the home opener against Texas. Plain Dealer reporters Terry Pluto, Dennis Manoloff and Paul Hoynes will answer questions and give their thoughts on the season. Mike McIntyre, Plain Dealer Tipoff columnist, will moderate.

Tickets are $25 with a breakfast buffet and door prizes.

For reservations go to www.plaindealer.com/homeopener. For more information call 216-999-4028.

There will be limited complimentary parking at East 18th Street and Rockwell Avenue behind The Plain Dealer building.

St. Patrick’s Day eve: Happy birthday Seamus. Have a drink on me in the great beyond, but only one.

Schedule: The Indians play two games Wednesday, sending one club to Tucson to play the Rockies at 1:05 p.m MT (4:05 EDT), while a second team faces the Reds at Goodyear Ballpark at 7:05 p.m. MT (10:05 p.m. EDT). Indians.com will cover the game against the Rockies, while SportsTime Ohio and WTAM/1100 will carry the night game against the Reds.

The Indians workouts at Goodyear are free and open to the public. They usually start at 9:30 a.m. (12:30 a.m. ET). Best fan access to players is at the lower fields in the player development complex. Other fans gather by the player’s driveway or the walkway to the main practice fields to get autographs.
